Blooming Brilliantly as a Highly Sensitive Person Course by Julie Bjelland

Discovering that you're highly sensitive can be both a relief and a grief.

On one hand, you finally have language for why you've always felt things so deeply. Why noisy environments exhaust you. Why you notice subtleties others miss. And why you've often felt different.

On the other hand, understanding the trait can bring up difficult questions  like:

  • Why have I spent so much of my life trying to change myself?
  • How do I stop seeing my sensitivity as a weakness?
  • What would it look like to genuinely accept who I am?

Blooming Brilliantly was created to help highly sensitive people explore those questions with compassion. Rather than focusing primarily on symptom reduction or coping strategies, this course centers on understanding, self-acceptance, and learning to thrive as the sensitive person you already are.

What this resource is about

Blooming Brilliantly: Understanding and Loving Who You Are as a Highly Sensitive Person is an online course created by licensed psychotherapist Julie Bjelland, LMFT.

According to Julie's website, this is an 8-week self-paced program designed to help highly sensitive people better understand themselves while developing greater self-compassion and confidence in their sensitivity.

The course focuses on helping participants move from self-criticism and self-doubt toward acceptance and appreciation of their highly sensitive nature.

Topics explored throughout the program include:

  • understanding the HSP trait more deeply
  • embracing sensitivity rather than fighting it
  • developing self-compassion
  • improving self-worth
  • recognizing and honoring personal needs
  • setting healthy boundaries
  • advocating for yourself
  • protecting your energy
  • improving relationships
  • understanding common HSP challenges
  • building a life that supports your nervous system

Unlike Julie's Brain Training course, which specifically targets anxiety and overwhelming emotions, Blooming Brilliantly takes a broader approach. It focuses on identity, self-understanding, and learning how to work with your sensitivity instead of against it.

The overall message of the course is that sensitivity is not something that needs fixing.

What you'll learn or gain

Participants may learn how to:

  • understand what it truly means to be highly sensitive
  • recognize both the strengths and challenges of the trait
  • practice greater self-compassion
  • reduce shame around being sensitive
  • identify and communicate their needs
  • create healthier boundaries
  • protect their energy without guilt
  • advocate for themselves in relationships and daily life
  • build stronger self-trust
  • develop greater acceptance of who they are

Many highly sensitive people spend years trying to become less sensitive.

This course encourages a different approach: learning how to support the sensitive nervous system you already have.

Who it's for

This course may be especially helpful for:

  • newly identified highly sensitive people
  • HSPs struggling with self-acceptance
  • sensitive people recovering from years of masking their needs
  • individuals who frequently prioritize others over themselves
  • HSPs wanting healthier boundaries
  • people seeking a more compassionate relationship with themselves
  • sensitive adults wanting a structured HSP-focused program

It may be particularly meaningful for those who intellectually understand the HSP trait but haven't yet learned how to embrace it.

Key benefits

Here are a few reasons this course stands out:

  • Created specifically for highly sensitive people
  • Developed by a licensed psychotherapist
  • Eight weeks of structured guidance
  • Focuses on self-acceptance rather than self-fixing
  • Encourages healthy boundaries and self-advocacy
  • Addresses common HSP struggles with compassion
  • Helps participants identify and honor their needs
  • Offers self-paced flexibility

One of the course's greatest strengths is its emphasis on helping sensitive people build a kinder relationship with themselves.

Any limitations

While many HSPs may find this course transformative, there are a few considerations worth keeping in mind.

The first is the cost. At $399, it is a significant investment compared to books, podcasts, or free online resources.

The second is that this course focuses primarily on understanding and embracing high sensitivity. If your primary goal is reducing severe anxiety or changing entrenched thought patterns, Julie's Brain Training for the Highly Sensitive Person may feel like a more targeted fit.

Because the course is self-paced, participants also need to create their own accountability and make time to engage with the material consistently.

Finally, while the course can provide meaningful support and education, it is not a substitute for individualized mental health treatment when more intensive care is needed.

Personal take

I think one of the hardest parts of being highly sensitive isn't necessarily the sensitivity itself.

It's the years many of us spend believing that our needs are inconvenient, our emotions are excessive, or that we need to become someone else to be accepted.

What I appreciate about Blooming Brilliantly is that it appears to address that deeper wound.

Instead of asking sensitive people to toughen up or adapt to environments that constantly overwhelm them, it invites them to understand themselves more fully and build lives that honor who they already are.

For HSPs who are ready to move from self-judgment toward self-acceptance, this course may offer exactly the kind of guidance they've been looking for.
